SHRUTI HASSAN BIOGRAPHY
Shruti Haasan (Tamil:ஷ்ருதி ஹாசன்) is an Indian singer turned actress. Her parents are the noted actors, Kamal Haasan and Sarika.
Early career
Shruti Rajalakshmi Haasan was born to actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika on January 28, 1986 in Chennai, India. She also has a younger sister named Akshara, who represents India nationally for Ballroom Latin dancing. Haasan studied at the Lady Andal in Chennai, until 10th grade, when she moved to Mumbai to read psychology at St Andrew’s College.
However, Haasan shifted her focus to cinema and music, and eventually travelled to the USA to continue to learn music at the Musicians Institute in California, before returning to Chennai.
Singing
Shruti Haasan sang her first song aged just six in her father's Thevar Magan in the composition of Ilaiyaraaja. Later while pursuing her studies in school, Haasan made her singing debut in the Hindi language film, Chachi 420, singing a duet performing for the voice of a child, with her father Kamal Haasan, who also directed the film.
Shruti Haasan's second song came in Hey Ram, where she sang the bilingual versions of the title theme, Rama Rama with her father, in Hindi and in Tamil. The album from Ilayaraaja, which was critically praised, won Haasan accolades for her efforts with reviewers, Screen India praising that she "has the makings of a good singer, and with some training she should go great guns".
Shruti Haasan, has most recently sung in a Tamil film, for Gautham Menon's Vaaranam Aayiram under the composition of Harris Jayaraj. As of November 2008, Haasan is also midway through her untitled debut album, which she has composed, written and sung, and is set for release in mid-2009.
Acting
After pursuing a career in singing, Shruti Haasan branched out a career into modelling. She started by starring appearing in the Frappe! magazine version of September 2007, since then she has gone on to appear in Verve.
In 2000, Haasan made her cinematic debut in the Tamil and Hindi bilingual film, Hey Ram, directed by her father. She made a cameo appearance as the daughter of Vallabhai Patel in the biopic of Mahatma Gandhi.
After rejecting prominent film offers, most notably the lead role in Venkat Prabhu's Saroja, reports suggested in late 2007 that Haasan was set to make her full debut as a heroine in 2008 with a movie opposite Madhavan directed by Nishikanth Kamath. Despite Madhavan admitting that the news "was premature", she signed up to the film, which was titled, Endrendrum Punnagai, only to be stalled prior to production. Eventually Haasan signed up to Soham Shah's Luck opposite Imran Khan, a Bollywood film.
Music composing
After much speculation, Shruti Haasan was confirmed as the music composer for the upcoming Tamil film Unnaipol Oruvan, with lead role played by her father Kamal Haasan who is also co-producer of the movie under Rajkamal International. The bilingual, is a remake of the successful Hindi film, A Wednesday!, but the soundtracks of both the projects are entirely separate.

His dance steps helped him become a star in Kollywood (the Tamil film industry). His first movie as a dance director was Vetri Vizha. He has since choreographed over 100 movies.
Before starting as a full time actor, he did song sequences in films. His first movie as a hero was in Kadhalan with actress Nagma. Sundaram's success resulted largely from his dancing. Benny Lava
In August 2007, a music video for the song "Kalluri Vaanil" from the Indian-Tamil movie Pennin Manathai Thottu was uploaded to YouTube by Mike Sutton (Youtube user Buffalax). The video was created as a mondegreen, edited to include incorrect English subtitles that approximate the original Tamil lyrics phonetically.
The name Benny Lava comes from Sutton's dubbing of the Tamil lead line "Kalluri vaanil kaayndha nilaavo?" as "My loony bun is fine, Benny Lava!". The video led other Youtube users to refer to Prabhu Deva Sundaram as "Benny Lava". Much of the "Benny Lava" video's appeal rests on the sexual innuendo in some of the subtitles. The video was inspired after Sutton watched Moskau by German pop-band Dschinghis Khan. One of Sutton's friends "wished he could understand the song so he could sing along." Sutton thought the real translation would be difficult and instead used English lyrics that replicated the German song.
Reception
"Benny Lava" inspired others and resulted in similar videos being created with phonetic translations. The viral video quickly spread and as of January 2009 the original video had 10,202,647 views. Reception to the video was mixed; Some felt that the video was done in "good fun" while others worried that their culture was being mocked.
The video was described by the Philippine Daily Inquirer as a "Catchy melody, a battalion of back-up dancers, colorful costumes, impressive vocal gymnastics, jaw-dropping choreography this music video has it all. And if those arent enough, the person who uploaded this vid also provided subtitles so you can sing along. They arent the real lyrics though, but just what they sound in English, resulting in a lot of nonsense."

VIJAY BIOGRAPHY
Vijay is a Tamil film actor and playback singer. He began his acting career doing many minor uncredited roles as a child artist in films produced by his father S. A. Chandrasekhar. Post-Thirumalai, he began portraying a stereotypical acting manner, much like Rajinikanth and M. G. Ramachandran. Vijay has more recently become a charismatic film star and has thus developed a large fan-following for himself.
Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar was born on June 22, 1974, to film producer and director S. A. Chandrasekhar and Shoba Chandrasekhar, a playback singer. He had a sister named Vidhya Chandrasekhar who died at the age of two. The story of Vidhya Chandrasekhar was pictured in the film, Sukran. Vijay went on to do Visual Communications at Loyola College, Chennai & was classmates with fellow actor Surya Sivakumar, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Karthik Raja, and Vishnuvardhan.
He married the Sri Lankan Tamil, Sangeetha Sornalingam, on August 25, 1999. She was a die-hard fan of Vijay and sought interest in marrying him. She flew down and visited him personally in India. They eventually got engaged with the blessings of both their parents. They have two children, a son named Jason Sanjay, born on August 26, 2000 in London, and a daughter named Divya Saasha, born on September 9, 2005 in Chennai.
Career:
Vijay debuted as a lead role actor in the 1992 film Naalaya Theerpu, produced by his father, then he co-stared with Vijayakanth in the film Sendhoorapandi. This film helped Vijay to become popular in the interior areas of Tamil Nadu. Films like Rasigan, Vishnu, and Deva followed, which all helped to Vijay to stay in the industry. Vijay is also one of the few lead actors of his generation to co-star with veteran actor Sivaji Ganesan. This opportunity came in the film Once More, directed by S. A. Chandrasekhar in 1994.
The year 1996 saw a blockbuster hit in the Vikraman-directed film Poove Unakkaga which helped Vijay to establish as a bankable star in Tamil films. He found more success with films that followed, which had an unorthodox climax like Love Today and Kadhalukku Mariyadhai. Kadhalukku Mariyadhai made Vijay receive that year's Tamil Nadu state Best Actor Award. Thulladha Manamum Thullum came as a blockbuster in 1999. Then he came back with successes of Khushi, Priyamaanavale and Friends in 2000.His string of failure films during 2001 and 2002 was ended by Thirumalai in 2003 which had Vijay in a new facial appearance.
Ghilli, which was released in 2004, is considered to be one of Vijay's biggest hit in Kollywood. Another hit had followed, which was Madhurey, later that year. It was in this year which Vijay began to portray his current mass-hero, stereotypical acting style. The following year he had stumbling time with movies such as Thirupaachi was a major hit and Sachein was average grosser. Sivakasi was a super hit.
Vijay appeared in Aadhi in 2006, followed by a short hiatus. He later accepted to work in Pokkiri which was directed by Prabhu Deva and released in 2007. Later that year, Vijay starred in the romantic drama film Azhagiya Thamizh Magan, and for the first time, he appeared in dual roles, as both the antagonist and protagonist. In 2008, he starred in the action film Kuruvi, again under Dharani's direction.
The year 2009 started off with the action masala film Villu, which was directed by Prabhu Deva and had Vijay in dual roles for the second time in his career. Vijay's next film, Vettaikaaran, was directed by Babu Sivan, produced by AVM Productions and distributed by Sun Pictures. In 2010, Vijay's 50th film Sura, another Sun Pictures distribution, released with mixed reviews and fails in Boxoffice.
Vijay has finished working with Siddique again for Kaavalan. Kaavalan released for 2011 Pongal after facing many hurdles. He is currently working with Aascar Films for Velayudham, Which after much speculation is being directed by M. Raja. Vijay has also been chosen for the lead role in S. Shankar's Nanban.
In the year 2002, Vijay was chosen as Coca Cola's brand ambassador in Tamil Nadu. In 2008, Vijay was signed up as the star ambassador for the Indian Premier League cricket team Chennai Super Kings. In 2010, Vijay was signed by Jos Alukkas as their brand ambassador for Tamil Nadu.
Vijay also sang several ghaana songs in his own films. He has also lent his voice for songs for other actors, which were films produced by S. A. Chandrasekhar. Vijay's songs are often of gaana-style folk beat type. The last song Vijay sang was Vaadi Vaadi from Sachien in 2005.
Vijay inaugurated 'Makkal Iyakkam' (People Movement) on his birthday in 2009, its motive is to do social work.

Mini Biography
Born to Mir Taj Muhammad Khan and Lateef Fatima in New Delhi, India. His mother always believed her son was destined to be a great actor often citing resemblance between Khan and Dilip Kumar , another Bollywood legend. His name literally translates into 'Face of the King'.
Born and brought up in Delhi, he was a brilliant student and an all rounder. At St. Columba's School he won the prestigious 'Sword of Honour'. He was also the captain of his football, hockey and cricket teams all at the same time. After sustaining a football injury, he started to consider acting as a career. He graduated with honours in Economics from Hansraj College and did his masters in mass communications from Jamiya Miliya Islamia.
Khan then went on to study theatre under the reputed Mr. Barry John whom he credits for carving out the actor inside him but his mentor considers his pupil as being solely responsible for his greatness and glory citing Shahrukh to have the perfect combination of 'talent, perseverance, belief in yourself, a never-give-up-attitude and of course, a bit of luck'; factors needed for success.
Shahrukh began his journey by landing the lead role of a commando in 1988 drama series "Fauji" (1988). He was much applauded for his work and soon became the heartthrob of teenage girls bagging roles in other serials as "Circus" (1989) and 'Dil Dariya', the former being delayed due to various reasons. He also had a minor role in a made for television film called In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones (1989) (TV).
His big screen debut came in the form of Deewana (1992) where he acted alongside the then top actress of Bollywood Divya Bharti and won the prestigious Filmfare award for Best Debut Actor Male. He had also starred earlier in a small role in 'Dil Aashna Hai'. This was followed by another hit in the form of Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992).
After a few more films which did average or less at the box office, Khan made the unique choice against all advice to opt for negative roles and played obsessive, somewhat psychotic characters in Darr (1993) and Baazigar (1993). To everyone's surprise the films were massive hits and Shahrukh earned his first Best Actor award and was also nominated in the villainous role category. His acting was applauded by all in the film industry and carved a niche for future King. The same year he bagged the Critics Award for best performance in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1993), a film he often recalls as amongst his favourites.
A series of hits followed to what would be remembered as one of Khan's most iconic performances; a film which is arguably India's biggest blockbuster and truly complete with the very best of drama, comedy, romance, thrills and a bit of action as well. The epic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) was released on 20th October 1995 and as of 2011 still plays in a Mumbai theatre, thus being the longest running film in the history. Coincidentally Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise was the initial choice as the main lead but the role went to Shahrukh who is now nicknamed 'Tom Cruise of India'.
Khan has come a long way since then with a string of hits under his belt which include some of Bollywood's biggest in both national and international markets namely Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001) , Devdas (2002/I), Swades (2004), Chak De India! (2007), Om Shanti Om (2007), My Name Is Khan (2010), Ra.One (2011) and Don 2 (2011), thus making him the undisputed megastar of India with a record number of Best Actor trophies and numerous Power awards.
His fame does not stop here; following release of his films overseas he has been credited as the world's biggest movie star and was named among the 50 most powerful people by Newsweek.
Even with all the success and boasting a statue among the elite in Madame Tussaud's, he is quoted as being one of the most humble and down to earth personalities although his wit is unmatched by even the best in business. This has led to him being a host of many television programmes, game shows and award functions including India's version of 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire'.
The King is an active philanthropist funding numerous humanitarian projects and charities as well as being personally involved in them though he prefers to keep this aspect out of the lime light.
His larger than life persona continues to win hearts all over the world with a fan following going into billions. He is the face of brands such as Pepsi, Tag Heur and has a AED 8 billion property development comprising multiple residential towers in the UAE named after him called 'Shah Rukh Khan Boulevard'. He co-owns two production houses 'Dreamz Unlimited' and 'Red Chillies Entertainment' and the IPL Cricket team 'Kolkata Knight Riders'.
Recipient of Padma Shri (India), Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (France), Unesco Pyramide con Marni (UNESCO), L'Etoile d'Or (by King of Morroco) and the Chubb fellowship (Yale) Khan currently resides in his beachside palatial mansion called 'Mannat' in Mumbai, India with his wife Gauri Khan and two children Aryan and Suhana.

Personal Quotes
(December 2001, about Hrithik Roshan): I wish I looked as good as he does. And I wish I danced as well as he does!
Yes, I do have a close circle of friends and I am very fortunate to have them as friends. I feel very close to them I think friends are everything in life after your family. You come across lots of people all the time but you only make very few friends and you have to be true to them otherwise what's the point in life?
I'd rather sink trying to be different, than stay afloat like everyone else.
I cannot repay my fans for what they have done for me, they have given me so much love and that love has taken me to the number 1 position where I am today, the only thing I can do for my fans is to never stop working, and to do films till the very end, it is the only way I can express my love for them.
To me, Devdas is the end of love stories. I've portrayed an obsessed lover, a nice lover, an angry lover, a romantic lover. And now I've played Devdas. For someone who doesn't even like love stories, I've played an awful lot of lovers. Personally speaking, I wouldn't see any of the romantic films I've acted in.
I'm the luckiest man in the world and I don't want to hide from the faces I'm acting for. So I don't surround myself with guards, I've never given an interview in which I've said I feel bad that I can't go shopping or I can't go to Chowpatty and eat bhelpuri without being mobbed. I'm not the kind of guy who goes out wearing dark glasses (I don't think I'm a big enough star to hide behind them, honest). I go to see movies in the cinema theatres, I go to restaurants with my family and friends even though I know people are going to disturb me there.
God has become a generic term like 'mind blowing.' It is embarrassing. I would have said that to Amitabh Bachchan, Naseeruddin Shah, Nana Patekar. I used to tell them I want to stand in the same space as you. I've told Kamal Haasan and Rajesh Khanna Saab, I just want to touch you. They are the gods of acting. When people call me God, I say, no, I'm still an angel or saint of acting. I still have a long way to go. Though I cannot ever surpass these legends I would like to be next to them.
(August 2004): Awards that ignore me are losers.
(August 2004): I'm try-sexual. I try anything that's sexual.
(August 2004): I have no competition. Every year the names I'm pitted against keep changing. You can't cream the competition, you have to kill it.
I keep hearing that our films are escapist and unreal but I find our films the most real in the world. We don't have people going up in a rocket and single-handedly blowing up a meteor. We don't have a president on Air Force One saving the world or things coming out of people's stomachs. Our fantasies and escapism are real. It's just people singing and dancing in the street. If England had won the World Cup you would have seen people singing and dancing like that.
I don't like wearing dark glasses. I'm happy with the fact that people know me. I want people to scream and shout at me, I want people to trouble me when I'm having lunch, I like six bodyguards around me. I love being a star. I find it very strange when people who are famous say they don't want to be photographed. I don't want to be photographed first thing in the morning, I don't want people peeping into my bedroom, but besides that, it's a wonderful life.
"I haven't given up smoking. I'm very clear about it, it's a personal choice. I want to cut down on it. It shouldn't be made into an issue to say, damn good or damn bad. Whether I give it up or not shouldn't be an issue." (Movie Mag, May 2006)
"I was supposed to have done Rang De Basanti (2006), the guy on the motorbike. I didn't have the dates. They were shooting in Delhi and the dates were clashing with Paheli." (Movie Mag, May 2006)
"It's not like Steven Spielberg is waiting with a script for me. I don't think I'll ever be offered a great international film in my lifetime, so I'd rather be a king here. Moreover, Indian cinema is the greatest in the world. But of course, after spending three months in LA, London, and New York I found that our cinema is a little exaggerated. To make a mark in the West we have to reach their level without losing our identity, culture or songs. I don't want to star in a Hollywood film, but want to make a film that crosses over universally." (Movie Mag, May 2006)
On trying to get Paheli (2005) an Oscar nomination: "There's a misreport here about our lobbying at the Oscars. The understanding that we have of the Oscars is very different from how it really is. Because Indian film, foreign films are not known, you're supposed to hire a PR company which we did. It's not as if you just go there, show your films, lobby and talk to them. You're not allowed to lobby as in you're not allowed to meet the Academy members, talk to them or even make a call to them. You just keep advertising in the 'For Consideration For Oscars' category. We took out full page ads in papers like Variety and Hollywood Reporter. The only good thing we did was that we advertised very frequently, it was promoted on the same scale as the biggest of films. We did it because we could afford it." (Movie Mag, May 2006)
"I felt Ashoka the Great (2001) should have been chosen for the Oscars. We had worked towards that. We had these international distributors for it. We were the first to actually release an Indian film internationally in traditionally non-Indian theaters. We spent a lot of money and lost a lot of money too. We were the first to put up boardings in London, in tube stations. We did speak to everyone who was anyone here, wondering if Asoka could go to the Oscars. But the one that got chosen was Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001) which was even better. So we had no complaints. After that I didn't make any film for the foreign market." (Movie Mag, May 2006)

After that I didn't make any film for the foreign market." (Movie Mag, May 2006)
You must respect your seniors, bu never get intimidated by them. Winning should be a habit, not an option. The four Hs are important when you play to win --- honesty, humor, hard work and a bit of haraamipan.
I don't look at the figures that my movies make. The only figures I look at are girl's figures. (When asked to comment on what he felt about the figures his movies gross.)
Whenever I fail as a father or husband... a toy and a diamond always works.
If I talk to a girl, it's assumed that I'm having a scene with her. If I don't, then it's assumed that I'm gay.
I don't kiss on screen. Period.
There are only two Khans. Ghenghis Khan and Shahrukh Khan.
Sex is not required to sell my film. My name is enough.
You never win the silver, you only lose the gold.
I am very shy. If I am flying British Airways and the air hostess asks me two questions, and I don't understand her accent - I will go hungry for the entire flight.
The dream I chased, took me on a journey. A journey more rewarding then the goals, the achievements. When I look back it's like facing a million mirrors. Each reflection opens a window. A window to the world I've just discovered. The world I want to share with all of you.
If I am a role model, I must be the worst one in the world.
I've never had a girl make a pass at me.
Togetherness, passion, laughter, faith, trust and jealousy are the essential ingredients of love.
The collar-bone is my favorite part of the human body.
If asking me whether sleeping with X or Y gives the media pleasure, then so be it. It's a small price to pay.

Earlier, he studied at The Scindia School, Gwalior for a few years along with younger brother Arbaaz.[12][13]
Career
1980s
Salman Khan made his acting debut with a supporting role in the 1988 film Biwi Ho To Aisi. His first leading role in a Bollywood movie was in Sooraj R. Barjatya's romantic family drama Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), one of India's highest grossing films.[14] It earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut, as well as his first nomination for a Best Actor at Filmfare.
1990s
1990 saw one film release starring Khan, Baaghi: A Rebel for Love. The film was a box office success,[15] followed by four hit films in 1991, Patthar Ke Phool, Sanam Bewafa, Kurbaan [16][17] and Saajan.[18] Despite these early successes, nearly all of his 1992–1993 releases resulted in box office failures.[18]
Khan returned to success in 1994 with his second collaboration with director Sooraj Barjatya in the romance Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, co-starring Madhuri Dixit. This film was the biggest hit of that year, and turned out to be one of Bollywood's highest-grossing films ever, becoming the fourth-highest earner of all time.[19] In 1995 he starred in Rakesh Roshan's Karan Arjun alongside Shahrukh Khan.[18] The two played brothers who are reincarnated after being killed by family enemies. The film was the second biggest hit of the year, and his role of Karan once again put his name among the nominees for the Best Actor award at the Filmfare, which was eventually won by his Karan Arjun co-star Shahrukh Khan for Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.[20][21]
In 1996, Khan performed in two movies, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directional debut Khamoshi: The Musical, a box office failure, but critically acclaimed; and Raj Kanwar's action hit Jeet. He had two releases in 1997: Judwaa and Auzaar. The former was a comedy directed by David Dhawan where he played a dual role of twins separated at birth.
Khan worked in five different films in 1998, his first release being the comedy Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya opposite Kajol, one of the biggest commercial successes of that year. This was followed by the moderately successful drama Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai.[18] Khan played a young man who has to take a child who claims to be his son, under his custody. For Tere Naam, (2003) Taran Adarsh said of him, "Salman Khan is exceptional in a role that fits him to the T. He breathes fire in sequences that demand uneasiness. His emotional outbursts are splendid..."[25] He subsequently continued his success at the box office, with comedies like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and No Entry (2005).[18] Khan's work in 2006 included Jaan-E-Mann and Baabul, however neither of these films were successful in the box office.

Five star hotels and stuff. So they panicked. Then they got up and spoke about it. My question is why not before. Attacks have happened in trains and small towns too, but no one talked about it so much."[45][46] Khan also said that Pakistan was not to be blamed for it, and that the Indian security forces had failed.[47] Khan's comments had drawn strong reactions from Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Chagan Bhujbal, Shiv Sena, BJP and other political parties.[48] The comments were also condemned by Ujwal Nikam, Special Prosecutor in the 26/11 trial.[48] Khan later apologised for his comments.[45]

Early life
Khan is the eldest son of screenwriter Salim Khan and his first wife Salma (née Sushila Charak). His paternal grandfather was a Muslim from Afghanistan[7][8] who came to India and settled in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, whereas his mother is a Maratha Hindu.[9] Khan had once said that he is "half Muslim and half Hindu".[10] He is also known to celebrate Hindu festivals like Maha Shivaratri and Ganesh Chaturthi.[11] His stepmother is Helen, a former actress, who has co-starred with him in a few films. He has two brothers, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan, and two sisters, Alvira and Arpita. Alvira is married to actor/director Atul Agnihotri. Khan finished his schooling through St. Stanislaus High School in Bandra, Mumbai, as did his younger brothers Arbaaz and Sohail.
Khan's performance in the film earned him several positive notices and favourable reviews from critics. He rounded of the year with an extended cameo in Karan Johar's directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai for which he earned a second Filmfare Award under the Best Supporting Actor category.
In 1999, Khan starred in three films: Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United and Biwi No.1, two of the highest grossing films that year;[22] and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which earned another Best Actor nomination at the Filmfare.
2000s
In 2000, Khan acted in films including Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, which addressed the issue of surrogate childbirth; Khan played the role of a rich industrialist, who hires a surrogate mother after his wife becomes infertile. Critics noted his turn towards a more serious role, which reportedly had more substance in comparison to his previous roles.[23][24] In 2002 he starred in the delayed release Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam.
For Tere Naam, (2003) Taran Adarsh said of him, "Salman Khan is exceptional in a role that fits him to the T. He breathes fire in sequences that demand uneasiness. But beneath the tough exterior lies a vulnerable person and this facet in particular comes to the fore in the latter reels.
Khan started 2007 with the ensemble film Salaam E Ishq. His next release Partner did very well at the box office, receiving a blockbuster verdict.[26] He next appeared in the Hollywood movie, Marigold: An Adventure in India which told the love story of an Indian man and an American woman. Khan starred in three films throughout 2008, all of which underperformed.[27]

Khan has been the subject of several controversies, including certain legal troubles. On 28 September 2002, Khan was arrested for rash and negligent driving. His car had run into a bakery in Mumbai; one person who was sleeping on the pavement outside the bakery died and three others were injured in the mishap.[40] Charges of culpable homicide were laid against him, but later dropped, and he was found not guilty.[41] On 17 February 2006, Khan was sentenced to one year in prison for hunting the Chinkara, an endangered species. The sentence was stayed by a higher court during appeal.[42] On 10 April 2006, he was handed a five year jail term and remanded to Jodhpur jail until 13 April when he was granted bail.[43] On 24 July 2012, Rajasthan High Court finalised charges against Salman Khan and his other colleagues in the endangered black buck killing case, paving way for start of the trial.[44]
He lives in Galaxy Apartments, Bandra, Mumbai.[1] He also has a 150 acre plot in Panvel, which has 3 bungalows, swimming pool and gym.[1]
As a dedicated bodybuilder, his measurements are Chest 42-inch, Biceps 17-inch, waist 30-inch.[1]
On September 2010, Khan was reported to have claimed during an interview to a Pakistani channel that the 26/11 attacks got a lot of attention because the "elite" were targeted.[45][46] During the interview the actor had said – "It was the elite that was targeted this time.
His relationship with actress Aishwarya Rai was a well publicised topic in the Indian media.[49] After their break-up in March 2002, Rai accused him of harassing her. She claimed that Khan had not been able to come to terms with their break-up and was hounding her; her parents lodged a complaint against him.[50] In 2005, news outlets released what was said to be an illicit copy of a mobile phone call recorded in 2001 by the Mumbai police. It appeared to be a call in which he threatened Rai, in an effort to force her to appear at social events held by Mumbai crime figures. The call featured boasts of connections to organised crime and derogatory comments about other actors. However, the alleged tape was tested in the government's Forensic lab in Chandigarh, which concluded that it was fake.[51][52]

Acting careerDebut and breakthrough, 2000–2002Patel's first opportunity for acting came in the form of an offer from her father's schoolmate, Rakesh Roshan, to star opposite his son, Hrithik Roshan, in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000). The offer came immediately after she graduated from high school but she refused the project because she wanted to continue her education in USA.[4] Afterward, Kareena Kapoor replaced her but luckily, Kapoor dropped out a few days into principal photography and Patel was given the opportunity once again during a family lunch.[5] She readily agreed to do the project this time. The role of an exuberant college girl in love, undergoing a tortuous time at losing her lover and rediscovering a more mature relationship gave Patel scope to perform. The film was a smashing success and established Patel as a rising star, earning her awards for Best Debut at a number of award ceremonies.[6] In her second film, the Telugu language drama Badri, she starred opposite Pawan Kalyan. The film was a major success, grossing more than Rs 120 million in India.[7]
2001 saw her appearing in Anil Sharma's cross-border romance, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, alongside Sunny Deol. Patel signed on much before she shot into the limelight with Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai and was among 22 girls that were screen-tested from 500 girls who came to audition for the film. Patel had gone through a 12-hour audition before she got the part.[8] The film went on to become the top-grossing film of the year, as well as the biggest hit of the 21st century, earning Rs 973 million in India.[9] Set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947, it featured Patel as Sakeena, aMuslim girl who finds refuge in Deol's house during the riots, and subsequently falls for him. Her performance was praised, and won her the Filmfare Special Performance Award, as well as nominations for Best Actress at various award ceremonies. Taran Adarsh of IndiaFM concluded, "Despite being one-film-old, Amisha Patel deserves full marks for handling the complex role with elegance. She looks the character she is portraying and impresses with a natural performance."[10] The film was perceived as being excessively anti-Pakistani.[11]
These successes were followed by a series of films that flopped at the box-office. In Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar (2001), she played a successful singer who was abandoned by her mother at the time of her birth.
In 2002, Patel had four continuous failures but her last release, Humraaz, became one of the highest grossing films of the year at the box office, and her performance earned her a nomination forFilmfare Best Actress Award. The Abbas-Mustan marital thriller saw her playing a character with negative shades for the first time. She played the girlfriend of Akshaye Khanna, who marriesBobby Deol to grab his wealth – but, seeing Bobby's honesty, her character surrenders to him. Taran Adarsh commented, "Amisha Patel is just about okay as Akshaye's lover (first half), but splendid as Bobby's wife (second half). This performance should silence her detractors for sure. Also, she's looked her best with admirable outfits and perfect make-up."[12]
Initial success and struggle phase, 2003–2011During 2003 to 2006, Patel's acting career entered a slump. Despite the relative success of Humraaz, Patel's string of unsuccessful films followed and would continue until 2006, although she did find minor box office success with Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai,[13] in which she played a career-oriented young woman who rejects the advances of Aftab Shivdasani's character. In Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage, she played the role of Sapna who is caged in protective custody of her own father. She co-starred opposite Hrithik Roshan for the second time in this film. Unlike their successful pairing in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, the film proved to be a disappointment and resulted in a critical and commercial failure. Patel's performance in the film was criticized by a section of the media, but during an interview she clarified that there was an "error" because the scene explaining that her character is supposed to be asthmatic in the film was edited out not knowing that one shot would make such a difference, thus creating confusion to the viewer about her appearing out of breath, as if she's overacting or crying.[14]
Consequently, Patel's unsuccessful follow-up continued with Kranti and David Dhawan's comedy Yeh Hai Jalwa in 2002, followed by her first Tamil language film Pudhiya Geethai and Deepak Bahry's Parwana in 2003. Her releases in 2004, Vimal Kumar's comedy Suno Sasurjee, a delayed production since 2000, and her second Telugu language film Naani, followed. That year she also appeared in the music video for "Kasam" and "Kasam (Unplugged)" by Adnan Sami.
In 2005, she starred in Satish Kaushik's thriller Vaada, playing the role of Arjun Rampal's unfaithful wife who is followed by her obsessive ex-lover. In her next release, Elaan, she played a TV reporter. She later appeared in Ketan Mehta's historical drama Mangal Pandey: The Rising where she played the role of the soft-spoken Jwala, a Bengali widow who gets rescued from committingSati by a British commanding officer. Patel was cast as a replacement for Aishwarya Rai under the recommendation of Aamir Khan who was impressed by her IQ level when he saw her on BBCunder the segment of Question Time India in 2003.[15] The film, which saw her appearing without make-up for the first time, did an average business despite becoming a major grosser.[16][17] Her other releases that year include Zameer: The Fire Within, a delayed production since 2001, and the Telugu film Narasimhudu, both which proved commercial and critical failures.
Patel featured in six films in 2006, all which failed commercially. She first starred in Mere Jeevan Saathi, a production that had been delayed since 2003. She next appeared as a blind girl inHumko Tumse Pyaar Hai, another delayed production since 2002. The film had a limited release and flopped badly with some critics describing it as "outdated". In Teesri Aankh: The Hidden Camera, she played the role of a mute girl who witnesses a murder. She learned the sign language in order to fit the role.[18] Patel was next cast in Tathastu, based on Denzel Washington's thriller John Q (2002). Her performance as the helpless mother was not well received.
Patel's fifth release in 2006, Ankahee, earned her critical praise despite its failure at the box office.[19] The film centred around an extramarital affair with Patel playing a housewife whose husband cheats on her with a model. To understand the mentality of a wronged wife, Patel spoke to her own grandmother who had undergone a similar situation.[20] Diganta Guha from Hindustan Timesnoted "...it's Ameesha's performance that remains in your mind. She is dignity personified in the film, playing a woman betrayed in marriage, going all out to save it and in the end choosing her own path."[21] Later that year, she appeared alongside Akshaye Khanna and Priyanka Chopra in Dharmesh Darshan's Aap Ki Khatir.
After appearing in a series of box office flops during 2002–2006, Patel's career prospects began to improve in 2007 when she saw moderate success with Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd., playing the role of Karan Khanna's talkative wife who tries to overcome her husband's gay leanings. Patel's comic timing in the film was well received.[22] She later co-starred opposite Akshay Kumar inPriyadarshan's hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa as a rejected adopted girl who is accused of trying to disrupt the marriage of her childhood crush.
In an attempt to renew her image, Patel appeared in a bikini item number, Lazy Lamhe, in Kunal Kohli's Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic (2008). She learned scuba diving for the song that took 15 days to complete.[23][24] Although the film flopped at the box office, Patel managed to garner attention for her appearance.[25]
Post the release of Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, Patel signed on to Run Bhola Run and Chatur Singh Two Star. However, both films were continuously delayed despite reaching completion in 2009. She next attempted a comeback by signing on to Rajkumar Santoshi's Power, but the film was shelved. Despite repeated attempts to make a comeback, Patel dropped out of several projects due to various reasons. Following a two-and-a-half year sabbatical, Patel made a brief comeback to the Telugu film industry with Parama Veera Chakra (2011) alongside Nandamuri Balakrishna; the film flopped. Chatur Singh Two Star released in the same year and marked her return to Hindi cinema after three years since the release of Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic. However, the film was poorly received both critically and commercially.[26]
Production and new prospects, 2011–presentOn April 23, 2011, Patel hosted an event launching her production company, Ameesha Patel Productions, making her the third contemporary actress-turned-producer in Bollywood.[27] She is set to produce three films under her banner in collaboration with her friend and business partner Kuunal Goomer, two of which will be directed by David Dhawan and Priyadarshan respectively.[28][29][30] In August 2011, Patel landed a role in Abbas-Mustan's Race 2 with a multi-star cast including Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor, and John Abraham.[31] In September 2011, she signed on to Susi Ganeshan's Shortcut Romeo along with Neil Nitin Mukesh, a Hindi remake of his own 2006 Tamil hit Thiruttu Payale.[32] As of January 2012, Patel signed on to the action-comedy Bhaiyyaji Superhitt, co-starring opposite Sunny Deol.[33]
Other workStage performancesPatel performed in a number of concerts and world tours during her career. Her first world tour, The Roshans: Hrithik Live in Concert (2001), along with Hrithik Roshan was performed across India. In 2004, Patel took part in a series of concerts in the world tour Craze 2004 alongside Hrithik Roshan, Saif Ali Khan and Lara Dutta. Humanitarian workIn September 2004, Patel joined PETA, one of the organizations championing the cause of animals, as part of an advertising campaign which highlights the lives of captivated animals in a zoo who are robbed of their natural surroundings for the amusement of others. Patel posed as a petrified prisoner in a jail cell to throw focus on the plight of animals in zoos. She said,
George Washington, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi... we had them. Animals don't; they need us. Let's fight for their freedom.[38]In February 2005, along with other Bollywood stars, Patel performed at the HELP! Telethon Concert raising money for the victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake.[39] She also took part in the Temptations 2005 charity function in New Delhi on 24 December 2005 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in aid of the National Centre for Promotion of Employment of Disabled Persons (NCPEDP), a leading disabled rights' group.[40]
In November 2006, Patel joined an NGO called PlanetRead, which helps people in villages to learn reading through film songs.[41] In October 2007, Patel along with John Abraham and Kirron Kherjoined the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to curb human trafficking in India.[42]
Personal lifeAmeesha PatelIn 1999, Patel met filmmaker Vikram Bhatt on the set of their first movie together, Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage (2002),[43] and they started dating since the film's release. Later, it caused a rift between the Patel and Bhatt families[44] with Patel running through a financial crisis after her parents used all her hard-earned money for their personal satisfaction causing misunderstandings between Patel and her parents.[45] In July 2004, Patel sent a legal notice to her father for mismanaging her accounts and assets amounting to Rs 120 million and demanding the money back.[46] Patel's relationship with Bhatt was often reported to the media spectaculating a possible marriage.[47]
In January 2008, the media reported that Patel and Bhatt broke their five-year relationship. Bhatt confirmed the break-up in a conversation with Mid-Day.[48] Shortly afterwards, Patel's parents explained their willingness to reconcile with their daughter and that "everybody is happy about the break-up" but their relationship remained strained.[49] On 12 March 2008, Patel was spotted with London-based businessman Kanav Puri at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.[50] In June 2008, she confirmed their relationship in an interview with Mid-Day: "I did not admit to Kanav sooner because he's very special and I did not want to jinx it. It was too precious for me to talk about it to people. It's almost six months now and now I am feeling secure and now I know our relationship is too strong for anything or anyone to come between us."[51] The media once reported that she got married to Puri but she denied these rumors.[52]
In August 2009, Mumbai Mirror reported that Patel and her brother, Ashmit, had patched up on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and were spotted together at PVR Cinemas in Juhu. Although the siblings agreed that the matter is sorted, they preferred not to speak about it publicly.[53] In December 2009, Patel's mother Asha had revealed they have finally ended their five-year estrangement during an interview with Times of India.[54]
In September 2010, Mumbai Mirror reported that Patel broke off the relationship with her long-time boyfriend Kanav Puri, to focus on her career.[55] She confirmed it via Twitter.[56]
ControversyIn August 2006, an Air India employee had filed a police complaint, alleging Patel had misbehaved with her after her companion was not upgraded to first class on the Mumbai-Newark flight on August 18. Patel was on her way to attend India's Independence Day parade in New York.[57][58] Officers at the police station said Patel could be called in and warned about her behavior, if charges against her are proved, and would be questioned once she returns from abroad.[59] Later, CISF personnel have corroborated the Air India employees' version of the incident.[60] Once Patel returned to India, she stated that the employees "are only trying to safeguard themselves by filing a false complaint against us."[61] Incidentally, there was also a drunken passenger, who joined in this verbal fight.[62] Afterward, the organizers of the annual parade sent a written apology and a clarification to Patel and said it had booked two first class seats for Patel and her companion for the Mumbai-Newark flight but the booking was automatically transferred from one flight to another, creating confusion.[63]
In the mediaBetween 2002 and 2005, Patel made an appearance in a number of talk shows such as Rendezvous with Simi Garewal and The Manish Malhotra Show. In 2006, Patel appeared as the guest judge on the special Valentine's Day episode of the singing talent contest, Indian Idol 2.

She studied at the Cathedral and John Connon School in Bombay and was head girl for the academic year 1992–1993 before heading overseas to study Economics at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts.
Patel's career began as an economic analyst at Khandwala Securities Limited after graduation. Later on, she received an offer from Morgan Stanley but turned it down. After returning to India, she joined Satyadev Dubey's theatre group and acted in plays, including an Urdu language play titled Neelam (1999) that was written by Tanveer Khan,[3] upon receiving permission from her conservative parents. At the same time she plunged into modeling appearing in several commercial campaigns. Patel has also modeled for well-known Indian brands like Bajaj Sevashram, Fair & Lovely, Cadburys Jai Lime, Fem, Lux and many more.

Patel is frequently cited as one of the sexiest Bollywood actresses.[64][65][66] Rediff featured Patel as one of Bollywood's sexiest actresses[64] and top Bollywood actresses of 2001.[67] She was ranked first on Rediff's list of 2008's Sexiest Actresses.[65] Patel was also cited by Rediff as one of 2008's Sexiest Magazine Cover Girls.[68]
